I’ve always loved green tea lattes and made a point of ordering one whenever they were in sight. It didn’t take me long to realize though that while commercial green tea lattes were convenient they were definitely leaving me agitated and ultimately fatigued. There needed to be a better way to enjoy this exotic drink without compromising the flavor or authenticity and my health. Fresh homemade green tea latte. Just the idea alone made me crave it. Maybe I’d even go father and add in matcha tea. A double dose of a very good thing. As you may already know, commercial green tea lattes often use ingredients that us erstwhile […]
Beta-Carotene Cocktail
Cocktail: “A mixture of agents usually in solution that is taken or used together especially for medical treatment or diagnosis” This tonic was a life saver. Truly. I was overworked, getting ready for an overseas trip, and feeling under the weather…it was my ‘if I don’t do something quick I’ll end up sick’ moment. A serious boost was needed so I turned to my two reliable miracles, carrots and orange juice, knowing the extra doses of vitamin C and beta-carotene would restore my former glowing self. Glow is always the goal. Off to the kitchen I went in my droopy state determined to brighten my dark and gloomy mood with […]

What fun we kids had each blueberry season chowing down on these little bundles of joy until our teeth and tongues turned blue. We would munch on them as quickly as possible in anticipation of proudly parading our blue mouths for the whole neighborhood to see. Oh, the giggles it brought us back then. Of course, once the adults got into the picture, our joy soon turned to frustration as our teeth and hands were quickly scrubbed clean and clothing promptly thrown into the washer. […]
Mexican Atole (Sweet Corn Drink)
Atole is a popular cooked Mexican drink that’s often sold as street food. It’s a comfort food usually made with masa or corn flour, spiced with ground cinnamon and vanilla, and sweetened with brown sugar. The base can be either water or milk, and the consistency can vary from thin to thick. I’ve always loved corn and knew instantly this drink would be outstanding. But I wanted a dairy-free and low-glycemic version with a little more spice. Before I knew it, my own Atole was born. What makes this drink so incredible is the combination of ingredients. It’s rich, spicy and sweet, and one of THE most filling drinks I’ve ever […]
