Quinoa. It would be so easy to rebel against this tiny but mighty seed that’s been hailed as the modern day grain messiah. It’s just everywhere now. To the point of being annoying. But I can’t. Quinoa really is a special (and addictive) grain alternative. The nutty taste, easy preparation, and sky-high nutrient count are just too hard to overlook. I’ve already shared two other quinoa recipes Black Quinoa with Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Tomato Mint Chutney and Italian Style Pizza with Quinoa Crust so it’s obvious I’m a fan. This delicious recipe adds yet another dimension to quinoa; as hot cooked cereal made with……quinoa flakes. That gorgeous seed that looks […]
Glowing Green Salad with Peppery Dandelion Dressing
How I love my greens and I hope you do too! Can anyone be too into “green” foods? I don’t think so. Green is the color I always include in my meals even when it’s just fruit or dessert. You can always count on me to add a splash of green hue in or around every dish; it’s that important to me. Besides smoothies, I get most of my greens in salads like my Gratitude Salad, and this beautiful bowl of plant goodness. This bountiful salad is not only delicious and satisfying, it’s sure to get your healthy glow going just in time for the ultimate summer season. It’s light and […]
Black and Blue Berry Freezer Yogurt Cream Cake
Is there anything prettier than a frozen berry dessert? Gazing at it, I can see a myriad of blues and reds dancing around in cool iciness, just waiting to turn off the summer heat with class. It always looks so regal. And stunning. And delicious. No wonder I just had to make one. Better yet, a luscious creamy berry freezer cake. No bake desserts are such a blessing during the summer aren’t they? I originally made this gorgeous dessert so many years ago I had to dust off my memory a bit in order to re-create it. In fact, it was one of the first raw desserts I ever made. […]
Mexican Chili Chowder with “Smoked” Black Lentil Relish
There are times when being a cook (and uncook) is very unpredictable. I might find myself in the kitchen with the intention of making one recipe just to end up with another dish entirely. Sometimes there isn’t even a real explanation except that I didn’t pay attention and maybe added too much of this or that, or didn’t follow my own directions. And like a pendulum, my emotions can swing from downright panic and disappointment to elation about my new discovery Cultured Pistachio Hummus. It’s a lot like life. The unexpected is always on the horizon and sometimes it really can be amazing. This dilly of a soup was a […]
Spice and Hearth Chocolate Elixir Pudding
This dessert always makes me feel like I’m at a ski lodge relaxing in a so-comfortable-I-can’t-get-out-of-it oversized chair soaking up the warmth of a blazing hearth fire. I’m wrapped in a warm blanket; all snuggled in and watching the snow lovers outside through ceiling high windows. This is actually a little more than a feeling; it’s the usual scenario when someone has coerced me into going skiing. I love snow. It’s a vision to behold; beautiful in paintings and photographs and definitely from inside a nice and cozy ski lodge. And it makes great ambience for tonic beverages like Pistachio Honey Superfood Tonic and this dessert. I just don’t like being right in […]
