Quinoa. It would be so easy to rebel against this tiny but mighty seed that’s been hailed as the modern day grain messiah. It’s just everywhere now. To the point of being annoying. But I can’t. Quinoa really is a special (and addictive) grain alternative. The nutty taste, easy preparation, and sky-high nutrient count are just too hard to overlook. I’ve already shared two other quinoa recipes Black Quinoa with Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Tomato Mint Chutney and Italian Style Pizza with Quinoa Crust so it’s obvious I’m a fan. This delicious recipe adds yet another dimension to quinoa; as hot cooked cereal made with……quinoa flakes. That gorgeous seed that looks […]
Glowing Green Salad with Peppery Dandelion Dressing
How I love my greens and I hope you do too! Can anyone be too into “green” foods? I don’t think so. Green is the color I always include in my meals even when it’s just fruit or dessert. You can always count on me to add a splash of green hue in or around every dish; it’s that important to me. Besides smoothies, I get most of my greens in salads like my Gratitude Salad, and this beautiful bowl of plant goodness. This bountiful salad is not only delicious and satisfying, it’s sure to get your healthy glow going just in time for the ultimate summer season. It’s light and […]
Super-Charged Breakfast Bowl with Brazilian Banana Milk
The first time I made this breakfast many years ago my friends and family thought I was crazy. Eating a bowl of mainly chopped fruits and seeds covered in banana nut milk? It was unheard of. Cereal was cereal and there was a hard and fast rule that it needed to dry, contain grains, and come from a box. But like so many other culinary parts of our lives, breakfast had evolved with better choices, quick and easy solutions, and fresh ideas. Enter my little (actually big) bowl of unconventional cereal and milk. It’s not only better for you, it’s also smart, trendy, and thoroughly enjoyable. This natural breakfast will […]
Salted Neapolitan Macaroon Bars
I was having some company from Europe for a casual get together one day and had to whip up something quick that morning. Being so short on time (I was working that day too) I was tempted to buy a pre-made dessert. But then my conscience and my common sense took hold of me. I mean where was I going to find a dessert with no refined sugar or chemicals and on such short notice? And the time and energy I’d use to find one would be better spent making one myself. I looked at two other dessert recipes of mine Elegant Whipped Lavender Berry Mousse and Hot Chocolate Cake with Mango […]
Pure Indulgence (Drink)
There was no master plan when creating this drink. It was simply a case of wanting a chocolate drink that even my intense chocolate-loving palate could be satisfied with. I have pretty high (okay ridiculously high) standards when it comes to chocolate drinks as you may already know Dreams of Cacao and Almond Mocha. Sometimes even creamy and super-charged goodness are not enough. Ironically, the inspiration for this gorgeous drink was a good old-fashioned root beer float. They were practically a weekend tradition when I was growing up, along with matinees and long drives in the country. Inevitably we’d all end up at a root beer drive-up stand, hungry and longing for some hot […]
